Consumers, despite facing inflationary pressures, are not giving up on their summer vacation plans.
United Airlines stated on Tuesday that it expects approximately 53 million passengers to travel this summer, an increase of about 3 million compared to last year.
The company added that destinations offering unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences are seeing particularly strong demand. Examples include European locations for viewing the total solar eclipse, cities hosting international football tournaments, and stops on major global concert tours.
United Airlines revealed that ticket bookings to destinations like Madrid and Barcelona have surged by over 50%, driven by the total solar eclipse on August 12.
The airline also noted that overall ticket bookings for cities hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in North America have increased by nearly 20%.
