Last month US inflation was 7.9%, highest in 40-year. Fed had just raised interest rate by 25 basis points, the first since 2018. She is planning to raise another 6 times this year, bringing the zero interest rate to 1.75%. Correspondingly, the 30-year fixed rate averaged 4.42% this week, the highest since January 2019, from 4.16% in the prior week, data from mortgage finance agency Freddie Mac showed on Thursday. Going forward, high inflation and mortgage rates are expected to impact home sales.
