As the APEC summit approaches, a growing number of companies, including leading enterprises, are actively responding to the call for flexible work arrangements by introducing remote work, paid annual leave, and green commuting initiatives, reflecting the genuine sentiments of frontline employees at financial institutions.
Many workers have expressed their plans for the period, with comments such as "green commuting is something we can do within our capacity," "I would like to take a walk outside when work is not too busy," and "I plan to visit another province with my family to see the autumn scenery."
Companies are adopting tailored approaches based on their specific circumstances, positions, timing, and locations to arrange remote work and paid annual leave, while encouraging employees to leave their cars parked and choose green transportation.
Ping An Group shows full commitment and anticipation
Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. (referred to as "Ping An Group") has issued a new notice announcing flexible work arrangements during the APEC summit. The Shenzhen financial core district is home to more than 300 licensed financial institutions, and Ping An Group stands as a representative of the leading enterprises among them.
On October 22, Sun Jianping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Organization, Personnel and Party Affairs Department of Ping An Group, stated that the APEC summit is a landmark event in Shenzhen's development process. As one of Shenzhen's benchmark enterprises, Ping An is fully committed and eagerly looking forward to the upcoming APEC event.
Sun Jianping explained that Ping An Group is actively responding to the call for flexible work arrangements during the conference, with specific measures including the following: first, arranging for employees to work remotely from home on a comprehensive basis to ensure business continuity and maintain service quality; second, fully respecting employees' personal preferences and coordinating paid annual leave arrangements; third, encouraging green commuting for employees who must be on-site.
Ping An Group was founded in Shenzhen in 1988 and has grown into a leading international "integrated finance plus healthcare and elderly care" services group, providing quality services to 253 million individual customers. The group's total assets have exceeded 14 trillion yuan, making it the largest insurance group in the world by asset size.
Employees plan to travel during leave
As the APEC summit approaches, themed banners and city decorations such as "Be a Good Host, Welcome APEC" can be seen throughout Shenzhen's streets, with "China Red" and "APEC Purple" flooding social media feeds. The number of international visitors in commercial districts and on the streets has noticeably increased, and many residents can genuinely feel the enthusiastic atmosphere of welcoming the grand event.
Mr. Wang, an employee of Ping An Group, said, "Shenzhen is about to host such a major event. As someone who works and lives in Shenzhen, I feel very honored and proud." He added, "Being a good host is something that concerns every enterprise and every individual. If work is not too busy at that time, I plan to go out for a walk. If there is more work to do, I will work from home to reduce travel while not affecting work progress."
Ms. Yang, another employee, gave a strong thumbs-up to the group's flexible work arrangements and looked forward to using her paid annual leave for off-peak travel. "November has crisp autumn weather. I am very willing to take the elderly and children in my family to nearby places for a walk. Some scenic spots are offering ticket discounts for Shenzhen residents, so I can plan ahead and go out to see."
Encouraged by the green commuting call from the city and enterprises, many employees have actively participated in green travel and applied to have their vehicles taken off the road. Ms. Zhou, an employee of Ping An Group, said that after seeing news reports encouraging green commuting, she submitted her application. "As an ordinary citizen, at this grand event, green commuting is something within our capacity. So I submitted my application very quickly, hoping to contribute my modest effort to make the conference run more smoothly and the city look better," she said.
Currently, the total number of vehicles registered for suspension during the APEC summit week across Shenzhen has exceeded 400,000, fully demonstrating residents' enthusiasm for supporting the city's major events.
Green commuting with smooth traffic
During the APEC summit, maintaining traffic order and urban operations depends on the joint participation of Shenzhen's enterprises and workers. Let us all be good hosts and add our own luster to the occasion.
