City Establishes Smart Logistics Network Spanning the Yangtze River Delta

Deep News06-09

The city is accelerating the development of a smart logistics network that serves the broader Yangtze River Delta region. Recently, an L4-level unmanned delivery vehicle, equipped with multiple intelligent sensor systems, departed smoothly from the Yangtze River Delta Smart Logistics Hub Center and arrived precisely at an SF Express service point at the Huzhou Transportation Technician College, covering a 5-kilometer route in under ten minutes.

This is a snapshot of the city's rapid progress in building this extensive logistics network. The Yangtze River Delta Smart Logistics Hub Center, which commenced operations last November, has already elevated the SF Express Huzhou Wuxing Transfer Center—located within the hub—to become the second-largest hub for SF Express in Zhejiang province within just over three months. According to Ling Kaikai, the head of the transfer center, it now handles an average of 172,000 parcels daily, with a peak daily volume exceeding 330,000 parcels. It has evolved into a new logistics node that serves surrounding cities like Jiaxing and Hangzhou, facilitating express package distribution across the Yangtze River Delta region.

To date, the city has attracted several leading logistics companies, including JD.com, SF Express, and YTO Express, fostering a comprehensive, intelligent logistics industry ecosystem. Notably, the SF Express Huzhou Wuxing Transfer Center has implemented a top-tier, fully automated intelligent sorting system. This system boasts a single-line processing capacity of 6,300 items per hour with a sorting accuracy rate of 99.99%. Compared to traditional methods, this has reduced labor requirements by 57% and increased sorting efficiency by over 30%.

Beyond hub development, the city is accelerating the layout and construction of low-altitude logistics distribution centers and regional low-altitude logistics bases. This initiative promotes the application of drones in smart logistics scenarios such as instant delivery.

In Anji County, designated as a "pioneer zone" for the low-altitude economy, Zhang Yuze, a young entrepreneur born in the 1990s, founded Zhejiang Tannuo Technology Co., Ltd. He leads a technology innovation team in developing drone application technologies to provide parcel delivery services to villagers. He explained that the drone-based low-altitude delivery model, developed to meet the specific needs of rural areas, can reduce manual parcel delivery volume by 85% and shorten the delivery time per package by over 90%.

Statistics show that the city has approved 63 fixed unmanned vehicle logistics routes, deployed 194 operational L4-level unmanned vehicles, and opened 68 drone flight routes. This is gradually forming an integrated "air + ground" smart logistics delivery network.

According to the Municipal Transportation Bureau, this year, the city continues to deepen efforts to reduce logistics costs, improve quality and efficiency, and promote the implementation of intelligent scenarios. This includes advancing the intelligent transformation of freight vehicles, stations, and logistics park facilities, and deepening the application of scenarios like "unmanned driving + logistics." The city will also implement "Six Major Actions," focusing on improving logistics infrastructure, restructuring the transportation system, upgrading equipment and facilities, innovating business models, enhancing governance capabilities, and increasing the efficiency of industrial and supply chains. The goal is to essentially build a green, smart, efficient, and sustainable modern logistics system by the end of the "16th Five-Year Plan" period.
