On November 18, Beibu Gulf Port Co., Ltd. successfully completed the final acceptance of its first batch of six river-sea intermodal berths and mooring facility upgrades in the Qinzhou Port area. This marks a significant milestone in the port's transformation and construction efforts, demonstrating breakthroughs in building an efficient river-sea intermodal system aligned with the Pinglu Canal project. The upgrades lay a solid foundation for the canal's maritime connectivity while advancing Guangxi's strategic vision of linking rivers to the sea and strengthening maritime development.
The approved projects include mooring facility upgrades at Berths 7–10 in the Leigou Operation Zone and Berths North 3 and 13 in the Dalianping South Operation Zone of Qinzhou Port. Spanning 1,455 meters of shoreline, the renovated berths have an annual designed throughput capacity of 19.83 million tons, comprising one 120,000-ton multipurpose berth, two 70,000-ton bulk cargo berths, one 70,000-ton multipurpose berth, and two 30,000-ton bulk cargo berths.
A joint inspection team comprising representatives from the regional port and maritime authorities, the Qinzhou Industrial Park administrative committee, project contractors, and five invited experts reviewed construction reports and on-site quality documentation. The team unanimously confirmed the project met all standards for quality, compliance, and documentation, granting final approval.
The upgrades focused on adapting to Pinglu Canal navigation requirements and enhancing river-sea intermodal capacity. Improvements to fenders, mooring bollards, and other facilities now enable all six berths to accommodate vessels over 1,000 tons, eliminating the final bottleneck for seamless river-sea transport.
To minimize operational disruptions, Beibu Gulf Port's Qinzhou terminal team implemented staggered "construction windows" alongside production activities, balancing both priorities. Real-time digital monitoring ensured progress, quality, and safety, achieving zero accidents throughout construction.
Moving forward, Beibu Gulf Port will continue pursuing world-class standards by expanding river-sea intermodal hubs, reinforcing its pivotal role in the New Western Land-Sea Corridor, and building a cost-efficient logistics network to drive regional economic growth.
