The National Day holiday is just around the corner, and the festive atmosphere in Kunming is growing stronger.
At Kunming South Railway Station, travelers pulling suitcases walk at an easy pace 鈥?some are returning to their hometowns, while others are heading to distant destinations. In the Shanghai Hualian Supermarket at Colorful Yunnan First City in Chenggong District, shelves are stocked with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and holiday gift boxes, and residents pushing shopping carts are carefully making their selections.
On September 29, provincial leaders including Wang Ning, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Wang Yubo, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor; and Liu Hongjian, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, conducted an inspection tour in Kunming to check work related to workplace safety during the National Day holiday, market supply guarantees, and passenger travel service support, visiting these two locations. The two sites, seemingly ordinary, are connected to the holidays of countless households 鈥?one end is the convenience of travel, the other is the abundance of daily life.

Caring about the "suitcase"
Kunming South Railway Station is a key hub of Yunnan Province's international railway corridor featuring "eight routes into Yunnan and five routes outbound," and is an important piece of national infrastructure under the Belt and Road Initiative radiating toward South and Southeast Asia. During holidays, Kunming South Railway Station always experiences peak passenger flows. Since it began operations in December 2016, as a vital transportation hub connecting the China-Vietnam, China-Laos, and China-Myanmar international railway corridors, it has accumulated a total passenger volume of 223 million person-trips.
"The passenger flow peak will arrive tomorrow. The responsibility and pressure are great. Thank you for your hard work in ensuring safety and service so that passengers can travel safely and happily," Wang Ning and other provincial leaders said as they entered the station, met and expressed appreciation to railway workers, and inspected passenger travel service support.
Wang Ning emphasized that the National Day holiday lasts a long time and involves large passenger flows, with dense travel for tourism and visiting relatives in hometowns. It is necessary to strengthen monitoring and scheduling, increase capacity on popular routes, and provide more thoughtful services for passengers to ensure safe and smooth travel.
To cope with the passenger flow peak, Kunming South Railway Station is implementing a peak operation schedule and plans to add temporary trains and overnight high-speed trains covering major directions such as Beijing, Chengdu, and Nanning. In response to the overlapping characteristics of intra-provincial family-visiting and tourism flows, additional trains are being added on popular routes including Dali, Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, and Honghe. In terms of passenger services, passenger flow forecasting is being strengthened, ticket sales windows are being dynamically adjusted, waiting and ticket-checking processes are being optimized, queuing times are being shortened, and full-chain services are being arranged for overnight high-speed trains. During every holiday, workplace safety and passenger travel are always matters of concern for the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. Especially in recent years, as "There is a kind of life called Yunnan" has become increasingly well-known, the significance has become even richer. More and more people are choosing to travel, live, and start businesses in Yunnan, and transportation hubs are their first impression of Yunnan. What is packed in a suitcase is not only clothing and local specialties, but also expectations for a journey and trust in a city.

Showing concern for the "shopping basket"
From Kunming South Railway Station to the Colorful Yunnan First City shopping center in Chenggong District, the focus of the inspection shifted from "suitcases" to "shopping baskets." In the Shanghai Hualian Supermarket on the basement level, five-star red flags and red lanterns were hung, and goods were dazzling in their variety.
Wang Ning and other provincial leaders exchanged views with merchants and customers, carefully asking about product sales, prices, and supply conditions, and wished merchants increasingly prosperous business. Wang Ning required management departments to strengthen commodity supply guarantees, reinforce market oversight, strictly control quality, and ensure that consumers can eat healthily and use products with confidence. "We began stocking up a month ago, and current inventory is sufficient," said Dan Wei, the supermarket manager. For the National Day holiday, they also specially launched an activity offering free home delivery for Yunnan specialties such as flower cakes, ham, and wild mushrooms, making it convenient for tourists to bring Yunnan's good products back to share with family and friends.
These details may seem trivial, but they are tied to the abundance and peace of mind of every family's holiday dining table. Market supply guarantees and food safety are the "bottom-line work" that Wang Ning repeatedly emphasized. "There is a kind of life called Yunnan" is not only about poetry and distant places, but also about the steadiness and ease of daily necessities, flowers, fruits, tea, and coffee. To live in Yunnan, one must first be able to settle down and eat with confidence. When the shopping basket is stable, people's hearts are stable; when the dining table is abundant, the holiday has the warmth of everyday life. Suitcases and shopping baskets uphold the festive warmth of everyday life
From suitcases to shopping baskets, from travel to the dining table, this concern is not limited to holidays, but is a long-term effort. Since 2023, the Provincial Party Committee has proposed and continuously developed the "There is a kind of life called Yunnan" IP, from travel to residence, and from residence to entrepreneurship. This is not only an upgrade of the cultural tourism industry, but also a transformation of development philosophy 鈥?making Yunnan a place where people are willing to come, able to stay, and able to live well. The premise of all this is safety, guarantees, and care in every detail. The National Day holiday is precisely a window to test this care.
From stations to supermarkets, from travel to the dining table, from workplace safety to market supply guarantees, every task is connected to people's hearts, and every detail affects the experience. Wang Ning required that all regions and departments across the province coordinate all work for the National Day holiday, closely monitor key areas and key sectors to investigate and rectify risks and hidden dangers, and strengthen management of road traffic, tourist attractions, commercial districts and shopping malls, hotels, and homestays. It is necessary to implement emergency preparations in detail, strictly enforce duty systems, strengthen coordination among all parties, care for personnel on duty, strengthen information reporting, respond efficiently to and handle emergencies, and resolutely curb major accidents.
Allowing people of all ethnic groups across the province and the many tourists to enjoy the National Day holiday and fully experience "There is a kind of life called Yunnan" is not a slogan, but is implemented in the perseverance of every post. The two locations seem different, but in fact they are connected. Suitcases connect to distant places, shopping baskets connect to daily life; going to distant places requires safety, and living daily life requires peace of mind. Only when inspections are grounded can one perceive the festive warmth of everyday life; and that festive warmth is the most vivid expression of "There is a kind of life called Yunnan."
Protecting the "suitcase" and the "shopping basket" well is protecting the most beautiful warmth of everyday life during the holiday, allowing tourists to experience a more concrete version of "There is a kind of life called Yunnan" during the holiday.
