It has been reported that the U.S. Department of Defense announced on Monday that it will integrate xAI's Grok series of artificial intelligence (AI) models into its GenAI.mil military AI service platform next year.
In a statement, the Department of Defense said, "The integration is scheduled for initial deployment by early 2026, enabling all military and civilian personnel to access xAI's functionalities at Impact Level 5 (IL5) security clearance. This will allow secure handling of controlled unclassified information in daily workflows. Additionally, users will gain access to real-time global insights from the X platform, providing decisive information advantages to combat personnel."
The statement further noted, "The Department of Defense will continue expanding this AI ecosystem, which prioritizes speed, security, and decision-making superiority. The newly IL5-certified capabilities will empower personnel across all roles, making AI a practical asset for daily operations and office tasks."
The Grok series models will be made available to approximately 3 million civilian and military personnel under the Department of Defense, primarily to enhance productivity. Key applications include drafting policy manual summaries, generating task lists, and extracting key terms from mission documentation.
Notably, earlier this month, Alphabet (GOOGL.US) announced that its Gemini Government Edition would be the first enterprise-level AI product deployed within the U.S. Department of Defense.
