The Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission has released the National Informatization 15th Five-Year Plan, according to Zhitong Finance APP.
The plan proposes that by 2030, China's informatization will achieve major progress and play an even more prominent role in advancing Chinese-style modernization. The information infrastructure will consolidate and expand its leading advantages, a three-dimensional network system spanning land, sea, air, and space will basically take shape, a new-generation communication network will be fully built, sixth-generation mobile communication (6G) commercialization will be launched in due course, a national blockchain network will be basically completed, and the intelligent internet will accelerate its layout and development.
The plan also mentions accelerating the construction of a new-generation communication network, deepening the large-scale deployment of fifth-generation mobile communication (5G) and gigabit optical networks, and advancing the development of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and 10-gigabit optical networks. It calls for accelerating 6G technology research and development, standard formulation, and application verification. It also calls for building a full-chain cultivation system for future industries, accelerating the industrialization and application of quantum technology, brain-computer interfaces, embodied intelligence, 6G, and other technologies, and exploring diverse technical routes, typical application scenarios, viable business models, and market supervision rules.
It is reported that China's 6G technology trials are divided into three phases: the key technology trial phase, the technical solution trial phase, and the system networking trial phase. At present, the first-phase goals have been achieved and the second phase has begun. Duan Xiaodong, deputy director of the China Mobile Research Institute, said that according to the global standard advancement pace, 6G will introduce its first technical version in 2029 and officially launch commercial use in 2030, with the next era of mobile communication moving from the laboratory to industrial view.
6G is by no means a simple speed upgrade of 5G. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology previously made clear that the core of 6G is to achieve deep integration of communication, sensing, computing, and intelligence, completing the upgrade and leap from a "connection tool" to "intelligent infrastructure." It will no longer serve only person-to-person communication, but must also support entirely new scenarios such as intelligent agent interconnection, industrial real-scene interaction, and full coverage across space, air, ground, and sea, laying the underlying communication foundation for the artificial intelligence era.
Chen Xiaohua, executive dean of the Education and Science and Technology Research Institute of the China Mobile Communications Association, said in an interview that once 6G commercialization begins, related products or services are expected to rely on features such as high-precision positioning and ultra-low latency to provide solid support and bring significant changes to fields including industrial robot collaborative applications, low-altitude flight management, and remote operations. They are also expected to open more new scenarios in the mass consumer market and help cultivate new consumer hotspots.
Huaxin Securities said that as the 6G industry accelerates, with clear commercialization milestones, the industry is entering a fast lane of development. The 6G industry chain covers multiple segmented links including chips, equipment, network construction, and terminals, and leading companies with core technologies and patent advantages will be the first to share in the industry's development dividends.
