Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has announced plans to invest approximately S$100 million to expand its service center located at Singapore's Seletar Aerospace Park. The project involves constructing a new facility spanning about 250,000 square feet and is expected to create around 200 high-skilled jobs.
This expansion represents the third round of investment by Bombardier since it established its service center in Singapore in 2014. The new facility will include hangars, operational support and aircraft refurbishment areas, customer service zones, and component maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) workshops. It aims to offer comprehensive services ranging from scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications, and avionics installations to round-the-clock aircraft-on-ground support. The new center is projected to become operational in the second half of 2028.
Paul Sislian, Executive Vice President of Aftermarket Services and Corporate Aircraft Sales at Bombardier, stated that the Singapore service center has long served as a cornerstone for service and support in the Asia-Pacific region, providing assistance for approximately 2,000 aircraft annually. This expansion will strengthen the company's service network footprint in the region and enhance its capabilities to serve customers within the Asia-Pacific area.
This capacity increase comes against a backdrop of rising demand for business jets in the Asia-Pacific region. Bombardier reported a record order backlog exceeding $20 billion in April of this year, with approximately 10% originating from the Asia-Pacific market. Currently, the Bombardier Singapore service center employs about 300 local staff, including roughly 250 licensed engineers and technicians.
The project has received support from Singapore's JTC Corporation and the Economic Development Board (EDB). Cindy Koh, Executive Vice President of the EDB, noted that this investment will further solidify Singapore's position as Asia's premier aerospace hub. Christine Wong, Assistant CEO of JTC, indicated that Seletar Aerospace Park will continue to support leading industry players in scaling their regional operations. Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Low Yen Ling, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. It is anticipated that Bombardier's local workforce will grow by over 60%.
Furthermore, Bombardier has joined the industry consortium of the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) under Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). This move aims to bolster its maintenance and overhaul capabilities and drive the adoption of digitalization and artificial intelligence applications. Bombardier also operates service centers in Melbourne, Australia, and a joint venture facility in Tianjin, China, within the Asia-Pacific region.
