UK Minister Met Paramount CEO Ellison in London on Thursday, Sources Say

Deep News01-16

A British official, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, met with Paramount Global CEO David Ellison this week to discuss issues impacting the UK's film and television industry, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.

The source indicated the meeting took place on Thursday, while Ellison is leading Paramount in a high-stakes battle to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery.

Paramount has not yet responded to requests for comment.

On the same day as the meeting, a U.S. judge ruled against Paramount's request to expedite legal proceedings in a lawsuit against Warner Bros., a case stemming from the American media company's disclosure issues related to a planned asset sale to Netflix.

Paramount is attempting to persuade Warner Bros. shareholders to back its all-cash offer of $30 per share, rejecting Netflix's lower, cash-and-stock proposal; concurrently, Paramount has taken steps to nominate individuals to Warner Bros.' board of directors in an effort to initiate formal negotiations.
