What exactly is the future space industry? Why is Xiongan able to seize this new track? Where does the consensus of "For aerospace, go to Xiongan" come from?
Recently, the 15th China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition (Future Space Field Competition) was officially launched in Xiongan High-Tech Zone. A competition aimed at cutting-edge technology and future industries has once again pushed Xiongan's aerospace information and satellite internet industry into the spotlight. Xiongan is also becoming an important landing point on this new track.
What is the "future space" industry?
To understand "For aerospace, go to Xiongan," one must first understand what the future space industry is. The so-called future space industry is not a remote and abstract concept, but a strategic industrial direction oriented toward the utilization and expansion of space domains such as aerospace, deep sea, deep earth, and polar regions, with a key focus on fields including scientific exploration equipment, resource development equipment, transportation equipment, and spatial information services. It has the distinct characteristics of high technology, high investment, high risk, and strong driving effects. It includes not only aerospace industries such as commercial spaceflight, satellite internet, BeiDou applications, and low-altitude systems, but also future strategic capabilities such as deep-sea equipment, deep-earth development, and polar exploration. In other words, the future space race is not just about breakthroughs in individual technologies, but also about systemic capabilities, industrial organization capabilities, and application-driven capabilities. At present, whoever can turn cutting-edge technology into engineering products, turn engineering products into industrial chains, and embed industrial chains into real scenarios will be able to seize the initiative in future space competition. Xiongan is giving its own answer.
Why Xiongan?
The reason Xiongan has become an important landing point on the future space track is first of all that an industrial gravitational pull driven by "chain leader" enterprises is taking shape here. In October 2024, the headquarters of China SatNet fully relocated to Xiongan. As the first central state-owned enterprise headquarters to settle in Xiongan, China SatNet bears the important mission of developing China's satellite internet. Its landing in Xiongan is not merely the relocation of a corporate headquarters, but also means the accelerated gathering of a strategic emerging industrial chain. Where the chain leader is, there coordination is; where final assembly is, there supporting facilities are; where testing is, there delivery is; where applications are, there the market is. Up to now, Xiongan has gathered 69 aerospace information and satellite internet ecosystem enterprises and 9 innovation platforms, covering frontier fields such as satellite final assembly, satellite payloads, network communications, and BeiDou applications. Around China SatNet, a group of upstream and downstream enterprises, innovation platforms, and service institutions are accelerating their convergence toward Xiongan.
Where does the consensus of "For aerospace, go to Xiongan" come from?
The reason "For aerospace, go to Xiongan" can form an industry consensus also lies in the fact that Xiongan has connected competitions, special programs, funds, buildings, pilot testing, and scenarios into a pathway. Focusing on disruptive technological innovation, Xiongan has joined with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei National Technology Innovation Center and others to build the "Disruptive Xiongan Special Program," with key support for directions such as spatial information and satellite internet, the digital economy and artificial intelligence, and new materials. It arranges 150 million yuan in funding each year and is expected to support 30 to 50 projects. The special program operates under regular management, has no fixed guidelines, and provides one-on-one technical manager services for projects. Beyond funding, there is also follow-on support from funds. Xiongan is establishing a disruptive innovation fund with a target scale of about 200 million yuan, focusing on supporting projects in the disruptive project pool, approved projects, and competition award-winning projects. At the same time, Xiongan is building a full-chain innovation support system of "one special program, one fund, one competition, one building," organizing project discovery, funding support, office space, small-scale and pilot testing, and industrial landing together. For participating projects, the competition is only the entrance. After winning an award, a project can enter the special program system, connect with funds, move into themed buildings, enter the high-tech zone's pilot testing base, and embed itself in Xiongan's aerospace industrial chain. In a speech, the Xiongan New Area Management Committee explicitly stated: "Choosing Xiongan is not just choosing a track, but also choosing a path from the competition arena to the market, from technological conception to industrial reality, and accelerating application." Xiongan also has a scarce resource: real scenarios of a future city. As a concentrated host area for relieving Beijing's non-capital functions, Xiongan itself is a future city built with high standards in planning and high-quality construction. Scenarios such as digital cities, intelligent transportation, smart water conservancy, emergency communications, ecological monitoring, and urban governance all provide natural testing grounds for future space technology. For the future space industry, what is most valuable is an application system that is replicable, iterable, and scalable. Xiongan's advantage lies precisely in the fact that it has both the real demand of new city construction and the capacity for institutional innovation and industrial organization, allowing new technologies to continuously trial, optimize, and scale up in real urban operations.
"Going to Xiongan" means gaining an industrial ecosystem.
Xiongan is using chain leader traction, platform support, follow-on funds, open scenarios, and ecosystem clustering to build an accelerated runway for the future space industry. Looking ahead, as advanced manufacturing sectors such as aerospace information, satellite internet, BeiDou applications, and artificial intelligence accelerate their integrated development, Xiongan is expected to produce more landmark achievements in the future space industry and contribute Xiongan's strength to promoting high-quality development of manufacturing, accelerating the formation of new quality productive forces, and serving the building of a manufacturing powerhouse.
