Shares of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (AQN) plummeted 5.52% at the opening bell on Friday.
The sharp decline followed the company's release of its fourth quarter and full-year 2025 financial results. Investor sentiment turned negative primarily due to a downward revision in the company's financial guidance for 2027.
While Algonquin reaffirmed its 2026 adjusted net earnings per share estimate, it now expects its 2027 adjusted net EPS to be in the range of $0.38 to $0.42. This represents a reduction of slightly more than $0.03 per share compared to its previous estimate. Company management attributed the lowered outlook to a higher anticipated effective tax rate and extended timing for gas operational excellence activities.
