Market Focus10-22

On October 22, YANKUANG ENERGY fell 3.05% in Regular Trading, trading at HK$10.18, with turnover of HK$123 million.

The move followed fresh disclosure that third-quarter operating data weakened even as the company guided for stronger first-nine-month earnings. It expects attributable net profit of about RMB11.1 billion, up about 56% year over year, and adjusted net profit of about RMB8.5 billion, up about 31%.

However, third-quarter saleable coal output fell 4.90% year over year to 43.77 million tonnes, saleable coal sales fell 3.51% to 44.50 million tonnes, and self-produced coal sales fell 9.55% to 40.26 million tonnes. The earnings increase also included relatively high investment income from the transfer of a 100% stake in Guxintai Coal, leaving the market focused on softer production and sales trends and mixed earnings quality.

Coal names were also under pressure more broadly after Shanxi accelerated mine resumptions and production recovery, raising supply concerns for the sector.
