Focusing on technological breakthroughs and fostering integrated development, the Tianjin Robotics Industry Technology Alliance was officially inaugurated on May 28, coinciding with the opening day of the 2026 World Intelligent Industry Expo.

As Tianjin capitalizes on the opportunities presented by the construction of the modern capital metropolitan area and the expansion of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei International Science and Technology Innovation Center, it is driving deep integration between artificial intelligence (AI) technological innovation and industrial innovation to cultivate new forms of the intelligent economy. In this context, the newly established alliance carries not only the aspirations for enhancing the quality and upgrading of Tianjin's robotics industry but also the city's strategic ambition to seize the initiative in the new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation.

After years of dedicated cultivation, Tianjin's robotics industry has established a solid foundation. Data from the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology indicates that the city's robotics industry chain now comprises over 100 enterprises. In 2025, their operating revenue exceeded 26 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 10.1% in the first quarter of this year and a 15.4% increase in value-added.

"However, we are also clearly aware that bottlenecks persist in key core technologies, there is insufficient linkage between upstream and downstream segments of the industrial chain, and issues like resource fragmentation and supply-demand mismatches remain," stated Xia Qinglin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, during the alliance's inauguration ceremony. Industry experts also noted that while Tianjin possesses high-quality university research resources, talent resources from institutions like Nankai University, Tianjin University, and Hebei University of Technology, and rich application scenarios in industrial manufacturing, port logistics, and public services, the integration of industry, academia, research, and application is not deep enough, constraining the industry's ability to elevate its level.

"To address the industry's pain points and clear innovation bottlenecks, there is an urgent need to establish an industrial platform for collaborative development and mutual advancement," Xia Qinglin emphasized. It is against this backdrop that a new consortium has been formed, comprising 180 members including universities and research institutes, leading industry enterprises, specialized and sophisticated supporting firms, industrial funds, and various financial institutions. This group covers the entire robotics industry chain, encompassing industrial robots, underwater robots, humanoid robots, quadruped robots, machine vision, core components, and large AI models.

"The most significant difference with this alliance is that it more tightly connects the various urban elements of Tianjin. This alliance is currently the highest-level, most influential, and broadest-coverage industry platform in Tianjin," said Zhang Huanxi, Secretary-General of the alliance. "After its formal operation begins, the alliance will focus on the pain points in Tianjin's robotics industry development, establishing six service platforms: supply-demand matching, technological攻关, financial empowerment, investment promotion, talent cultivation and recruitment, and standard systems. These will comprehensively cover the full range of needs in industrial development."

In terms of technological攻关, the alliance will connect the research strengths of universities with leading enterprises, focusing on key areas such as reducers, servo motors, machine vision, and perception components for humanoid robots. It will organize collaborative technological攻关 efforts among industry, academia, and research entities to accelerate the local transformation and commercialization of scientific research成果.

Regarding supply-demand matching, the alliance will regularly conduct精准对接 activities between upstream and downstream segments of the industrial chain. It will also deeply integrate into the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Humanoid Robot Industry Chain Collaborative Advancement Project to promote coordinated linkage in the robotics supply chain across the region.

Mao Jihua, Director of the Industrial Digital Transformation Division at the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, stated that the establishment of the alliance is part of the bureau's implementation of the "Six Ones" project to promote the development of the robotics industry. "Besides forming an alliance, we will also introduce a plan—the 'Tianjin Robotics Industry High-Quality Development Implementation Plan'—establish a dedicated task force for the robotics industry, set up a batch of specialized industrial funds, create a number of pilot testing and flexible processing platforms, and develop a series of application scenarios. This will truly position us as the main force in industrial services, safeguarding the quality improvement and upgrading of the industrial ecosystem," he said.

"Since participating in the Hannover Messe in Germany in April this year, we have been in a 'happy' vortex of being noticed and seen. It feels like another spring for intelligent manufacturing is arriving. As a leading enterprise in Tianjin's robotics industry chain, we have no reason to hold back. We must shoulder the responsibility of driving high-quality development and creating more employment opportunities and tax revenue," said Ren Zhiyong, Chairman of Langyu Robot, during an interview at the alliance's inauguration event.

With increasing policy support, successive technological breakthroughs, and expanding application scenarios, Tianjin's robotics industry is accelerating along the new track of the intelligent economy, progressing steadily with promising prospects.
