President Donald Trump has said he is willing to grant protective pardons to Elon Musk and close associates if Democrats take control of Congress after the midterm elections.
In an interview, Trump rejected suggestions that Democrats might push to nationalize Musk's SpaceX, but said he would "protect" the billionaire entrepreneur and any aides targeted by congressional investigators, including Edward Coristine.
Coristine was involved in the Department of Government Efficiency project led by Musk, which was aimed at cutting government programs.
Trump confirmed that, if necessary, this could mean granting pardons in advance.
"If necessary, I would, of course," he said on conservative commentator Miranda Devine's "Pod Force One" podcast. "I wouldn't even hesitate."
