Trip.com Group's greenhouse gas emission reduction targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), making it the first online travel company in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve this milestone.
The SBTi, co-founded by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), promotes science-based climate action among corporations and financial institutions. Since its establishment in 2015, it has become one of the most influential frameworks for corporate climate commitments globally.
Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group, stated, "This validation by SBTi marks a significant milestone in our journey toward low-carbon management and climate action. Moving forward, we will continue to advance our 'Four Friendly' sustainability strategy, collaborating with industry partners to foster greener and more sustainable global tourism."
**From Commitment to Action: Building a Systematic Carbon Management Framework** Since announcing its carbon neutrality pledge in 2023, Trip.com Group has steadily progressed in establishing its carbon management system. In 2024, the company launched a carbon footprint assessment project, using the year as a baseline to scientifically measure greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and value chain. Based on this, it developed science-based reduction targets aligned with SBTi requirements and is researching phased emission reduction pathways. In 2025, the group further initiated a carbon data management system to enable continuous tracking and improvement of emissions data. The SBTi validation signifies a critical step in Trip.com Group's systematic and science-driven approach to climate action.
**Collaborating for a Sustainable Travel Future** Globally, Trip.com Group actively participates in sustainability initiatives. It has joined the UNGC and co-founded the Travalyst alliance to promote responsible travel practices and industry-wide sustainability. Additionally, as a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the company supports the adoption of sustainable tourism standards. Guided by its mission of "Perfecting the Journey, Enriching Life," Trip.com Group will continue advancing its "Four Friendly" strategy—focusing on environmental, family, community, and industry-friendly practices—to collaborate with partners in building a greener future.
