National Standards for Humanoid Robot Testing Methods Officially Begin Development

A national initiative to establish testing standards for humanoid robots has officially commenced. On August 13, the kick-off meeting for the "Humanoid Robot Test Methods" series of national standards was held in the Optics Valley (Guanggu) region. During the event, the drafting of seven key standards, including general principles, environmental perception, decision-making and planning, and motion control, was simultaneously initiated.

Over 200 industry representatives from leading domestic companies such as Unitree Technology, Xiaomi Robot, Magic Atom, ZTE Corporation, Deep Robotics, Horizon Robotics, Lingxin Qiaoshou, and Galaxy General, as well as universities including Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University, China Jiliang University, and University of Bamberg, attended the meeting.

Liu Xin, Secretary-General of the Humanoid Robot Sub-Technical Committee of the National Robot Standardization Technical Committee, explained that the test methods will define how humanoid robots are inspected and how they are determined to meet standards, essentially serving as a nationally recognized "exam syllabus." "Currently, every robot company has different technical standards and testing methods, making large-scale replication difficult. Only by establishing the standards first can the industry truly take off," Liu Xin noted.

Two companies from the Optics Valley are participating in the development of these national standards. Chengxin Zhilian is responsible for the positioning and navigation standards, marking it as the sole lead unit from Hubei Province. Huaweike is a core participating unit for the environmental perception standards. On-site, the Hubei Provincial Electronic Information Standardization Technical Committee's Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Standards Working Group was also inaugurated, with its first batch of members including 29 entities such as the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, the Hubei Institute of Metrology and Testing Technology, Wuhan University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Experts at the conference stated that in the future-oriented industry of humanoid robots, the competition for influence in standard-setting has already begun. The launch of national standards in Wuhan signifies that Optics Valley companies are no longer just passive observers executing standards but are actively moving to the forefront of participating in their creation. The decision to hold this national event in the Optics Valley was not coincidental. Currently, the scale of Hubei Province's embodied intelligence industry has surpassed 40 billion yuan, with over 140 companies in the humanoid robot supply chain, more than 60% of which are located in the Optics Valley.

In terms of complete robots, ten local enterprises, including Hubei Qiling, Wuhan Glennor, Wuhan Hand-zhi Innovation, Guanggu Huahui, Guanggu Dongzhi, and Guanggu Shengchuang, have developed and released 23 makes of humanoid robots produced in Hubei. Regarding components, Hubei has gathered 108 related manufacturing enterprises, covering 31 core categories of the humanoid robot supply chain, with 47 companies already integrated into the complete robot supply chain. Many of these hold critical positions in the chain; for example, Huaweike's electronic skin and YuanSheng Innovation's IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) inertial sensors each hold over 70% market share. Langyi Robot's self-developed "Lingqing SR360" embodied cerebellum module captures 86% of the domestic autonomous mobile humanoid robot market. Chengxin Zhilian integrates IMU and other sensing devices to provide intelligent solutions for embodied intelligence parks. Products like Siweitai Chuan Dong's RV reducers and Kefeng Intelligent's precision planetary reducers also hold leading positions domestically and internationally.

To promote the development of the embodied intelligence industry, the Optics Valley has completed and put into operation the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. Covering nearly 7,000 square meters, the center features action training grounds, data collection fields, application practice fields, and a talent cultivation base. It simulates 23 types of real-world scenarios, including supermarkets, restaurants, and factories, making it the largest and most application-scenario-rich humanoid robot innovation platform in China. Recently, the Optics Valley also established the Hubei Embodied Intelligence Talent Training Base, building an integrated talent supply ecosystem involving government, industry, academia, research, and application. Furthermore, the province's first comprehensive AI ecosystem operator, Qiyuan Zhiyu, was founded to coordinate relevant resources and incubate the upstream and downstream industrial ecosystem.
