Shanghai Airports Maintain High Operational Tempo with 2,430 Daily Flights

Deep News09:50

Since the start of the summer travel season on July 1, Shanghai International Airport Co.,Ltd. has seen its two major airports, Pudong and Hongqiao, operate at a consistently high level. The airports have been handling an average of 2,430 flights per day, with passenger and cargo volumes increasing further compared to last year.

Analysis indicates that the combination of the peak travel season and the continuous improvement of hub functions are the primary drivers behind the record passenger traffic. Currently, Shanghai International Airport Co.,Ltd. provides regular flights to 302 destinations across 53 countries worldwide. In 2025, Pudong Airport handled 13.75 million transit passengers, a 14% increase year-on-year, achieving a transit rate of 16.2%. This scale ranks among the top in the country and leads the Northeast Asian region.

On the cargo front, Shanghai International Airport Co.,Ltd. is advancing the transformation of air freight from a "logistics channel" to a "supply chain hub." To this end, the company has launched eight major cargo products. These include introducing a new transfer route from Southeast Asia to Shanghai to North America, launching inter-airport shuttle services, and rolling out products for the airport's airside cargo pre-warehousing and overseas cargo stations. Additionally, market products for passenger aircraft belly cargo space have been introduced, offering fee reductions for airline operations during non-peak hours. In 2025, the cargo throughput of Shanghai's two major airports reached 4.5 million tons, with Pudong Airport alone exceeding 4 million tons.
