On the evening of December 14, Dong Mingzhu addressed the topic of "aluminum replacing copper" in the air conditioning industry. She stated that while aluminum could theoretically substitute copper—given years of research—Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai continues to avoid using aluminum due to its current inability to match copper's technical reliability and performance guarantees.
Dong emphasized that research into aluminum alternatives remains ongoing, and Gree would adopt aluminum only once it fully matches copper's capabilities.
Recently, companies including Haier, Midea, and Xiaomi jointly endorsed the "Air Conditioning Aluminum Reinforcement Application Research Group Self-Regulation Convention," pledging to uphold industry standards and advance breakthroughs in aluminum-copper substitution technology.
When asked about this development, Gree clarified it has no immediate plans to replace copper with aluminum, citing copper's superior thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability. The company stated it would not transition to aluminum until the technology achieves 100% reliability.
