On October 25, value investor Duan Yongping posted on Xueqiu that “buying stocks means buying companies,” urging investors to downplay market swings and prioritize long-term ownership. He wrote: “For every investment going forward, you should think you are buying the company, try to ignore the market’s influence, and in the long run your life will be better.”

In the comments, a real estate developer described a shift in strategy after an industry shakeout. He said small-city home prices fell by 50%-70%, his assets depreciated sharply but still exceeded liabilities, and most holdings generated little cash flow while taxes continued. He listed “several small land parcels, around a hundred completed apartments, over a thousand parking spaces, and one topped-out but unsold project,” adding that at age 40 he felt “confused.”

Prompted by Duan’s maxim this summer, he decided to become a long-term shareholder in quality companies. Familiar with Kweichow Moutai, he first bought 125 lots, calling himself a “one-in-100,000 small shareholder,” and said he would add if prices and funds allow. He also bought 86 lots of “Paopao,” and took a small position in Tencent, noting he was among the earliest 6-digit OICQ users. Since building positions for over 3 months, he said he feels “steady and at ease.”

He added that, as a post-1985 consumer, he used Xiao Bawang consoles, BBK study devices, Xiaotiancai products, and his family uses OPPO phones. He thanked Duan for helping him understand value investing and hoped to remain “colleagues” as long-term shareholders. The posts were made on Xueqiu.
