BMW Group Reports 2025 Net Profit Exceeding €7 Billion, Accelerates New Class Rollout in China

Deep News03-17 17:23

Despite facing significant challenges, the BMW Group maintained steady progress in 2025. Driven by an attractive product portfolio covering all drive technologies, a continuously optimized and balanced global business footprint, and meticulous cost management, the Group's pre-tax profit once again surpassed €10 billion, reaching €10.2 billion. Despite a notable impact from additional tariffs, the Group's pre-tax return margin remained stable at 7.7%, consistent with 2024. The Group's net profit exceeded €7 billion, on par with the previous year. Cost control measures proved highly effective, achieving €2.5 billion in savings for the full year.

BMW Group Chairman Oliver Zipse stated that strategic foresight, robust business performance, and a long-established reputation for reliability are enduring characteristics of the BMW Group. He emphasized that the company defined its strategic direction early, relying on three core pillars: a commitment to technology neutrality, a broad and balanced global presence, and attractive brands and products. Mr. Zipse noted that strategic choices made in recent years have been validated and continue to yield benefits, allowing the Group to methodically advance its strategy without needing to alter course in a challenging environment.

The diversity of the product portfolio remains a core success factor for the BMW Group. With a wide range of powertrain combinations—covering internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, all-electric drive systems, and hydrogen fuel cell technology slated for market introduction from 2028—the Group is laying a solid foundation to meet diverse global market demands and customer expectations, both present and future. This strategic approach is also key to achieving efficient CO2 reduction. In 2025, the Group's fleet emissions were 90g/km, exceeding the EU target, a accomplishment achieved entirely through its own efforts, demonstrating that technology neutrality and effective climate protection are mutually reinforcing.

All-electric vehicles continued to be a growth driver for the Group. In the 2025 financial year, global sales of BMW Group's fully-electric vehicles rose to 442,072 units, accounting for 17.9% of total sales, meaning one in every six vehicles sold was fully electric. The proportion was even higher for the MINI brand, where one in every three MINIs sold was fully electric. In Europe, 40% of the Group's sales came from all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. With its extensive portfolio of electric models, the BMW Group has established a strong competitive advantage in the electromobility market. In June 2025, the Group delivered its 1.5 millionth fully-electric vehicle, and it is set to reach the milestone of 2 million electric vehicle deliveries in 2026. As a pioneer in electromobility, BMW will continue to expand its all-electric lineup, offering customers 20 fully-electric models by the end of 2026.

In the 2025 financial year, the BMW Group delivered 2,463,681 luxury vehicles to customers worldwide, representing a slight increase of 0.5% compared to 2024. Strong performances in European and US markets were recorded, while China remained the Group's largest single market globally, underscoring the decisive competitive advantage of the "broad and balanced global footprint" strategic pillar. The BMW M brand continued its success story in 2025, achieving a 14th consecutive year of sales growth. With over 213,000 vehicles delivered to customers, it reached a new all-time high; one in every ten BMWs sold was an M model. The BMW M2 Coupé and M3 family were key drivers of this performance, with BMW M and electrified models jointly serving as primary growth drivers for the Group in 2025. The MINI brand achieved significant growth with its new model family, posting a 17.7% year-on-year increase in sales.

The implementation of the Neue Klasse (New Class) strategy reached a key milestone. The new BMW iX3, the first production model in the New Class series, is injecting core momentum for the future of the brand and the Group. The vehicle successfully entered series production and completed its ramp-up at the new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The first vehicles have been delivered to customers and are now fully available in European showrooms. Demand for the new BMW iX3 has significantly exceeded expectations; in Europe, one in every three orders for an all-electric BMW is for this model, and it has successfully attracted many new customers to the brand for the first time. To match the strong market demand, the Debrecen plant has commenced two-shift production. Concurrently, the second New Class model, the BMW i3, is set for its world premiere on March 18 in Munich.

Looking ahead, BMW will introduce New Class technologies across its entire product portfolio at a rapid pace of innovation. By 2027, the company will launch more than 40 new and revised models. Core segments will see new generations of the BMW 3 Series and BMW X5, offered with a choice of all drive technologies, with all models benefiting deeply from New Class technologies. In 2027, the BMW M brand will usher in a new era for the high-performance segment by launching its first all-electric M model based on the New Class platform, designed for professional track capability. Leveraging the dedicated New Class technology cluster and a modular technology concept, BMW can deeply integrate market-specific features and content into vehicle development and production, while continuously strengthening R&D capabilities to respond more quickly and flexibly to local customer needs in various regions with tailored solutions.

In the Chinese market, BMW continues to strengthen its three core competencies: innovation, intelligent manufacturing, and its retail network. The year 2025 is one of building momentum, deepening its presence, and strengthening its systemic foundations in China. The long-wheelbase version of the new BMW iX3 will have its global premiere at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show and will enter production in Shenyang. Developed jointly by BMW and local R&D teams, this model integrates breakthrough proprietary technologies such as the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology and the "Super Brain" for driving and chassis control. It is deeply integrated with the local "China AI" ecosystem, making it BMW's "most China-specific" product. In 2026, BMW will launch approximately 20 new products in China, covering the BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad brands, fully commencing a new chapter for the implementation of the New Class strategy in the country.
