That's 'assuming 2022 is not mega drama,' CEO says.

Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted Wednesday that the new version of the Tesla Roadster likely will be available in 2023 due to this year's "super crazy supply chain shortages."

Musk qualified that by saying the new deadline assumes that 2022 "is not mega drama."

Chips and parts shortages have dogged Tesla $(TSLA)$ and other auto makers during the pandemic, with supply-chain disruptions persisting.

Tesla shares inched higher on Wednesday and are up 4% so far this year, compared with gains of 21% for the S&P 500 index in the same period.
