Sierra Metals Inc. on Monday said three contractor employees died and one was injured following a mudslide incident at its Yauricocha Mine in Peru.

The incident occurred at 4 p.m. Lima time on Sunday, Sierra said. The company said mining operations at the facility have been suspended temporarily, and would resume "once conditions are considered safe and appropriate."

Sierra Metals also said it has notified local authorities and that an investigation has been launched.

According to the company, the Yauricocha Mine accounts for 66% of its total revenue, as of Dec. 31, 2021. The property, which covers 18,778 hectares, produces copper, zinc, lead and other materials. Last year, the site produced 59.4 million copper equivalent pounds, Sierra said.
