The then Morrison government established a new regime for the eSafety Commissioner to notify social media companies to remove certain violent material online.Despite several key staff working closely with government and local regulators, Australia remains a relatively small market for Twitter.The company’s sales staff generated $14.7 million in revenue last year, posting a $2 million loss, according to company filings. Twitter’s global revenue for the same period was more than $5 billion.Mark’s Meta up nextMr Musk’s sweeping changes to Twitter comes as other global tech firms grapple with the cooling economy and investors who have turned sour on them. Google and Amazon executives have already put in place hiring freezes to cut costs.Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta looks to be the next tech company to make deep cuts to its workforce. On Monday, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times both reported that Meta was readying large scale lay-offs to the company’s 87,000 workforce.Facebook’s share price has cratered since founder Mark Zuckerberg re-named the company Meta last year.The reports say the cuts would be the deepest since Mr Zuckerberg founded the company in 2004.
