The House Rules Committee on Tuesday voted 7-6 in favor of advancing a crucial debt-ceiling bill, in a move that paves the way for action by the full House on Wednesday.
The bill is expected to go to a floor of the House on Wednesday for debate and a final vote. If approved, it will advance to the Senate.
The committee had looked on track to back the measure after one key Republican member, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, indicated earlier in the day he would support it.
