Stock gainers:
AT&T$(T)$ and Verizon Communications$(VZ)$ stock each rose 2%, as Citi upgraded both telecommunications companies to buy/high-risk from neutral.
Hawaiian Electric Industries $(HE)$ stock rose 6%, extending Monday's 45% surge when it denied being responsible for deadly wildfires.
Shares of Joann Inc. $(JOAN)$ jumped 9% after the arts and crafts retailer posted fiscal second-quarter sales above consensus, saying that early Halloween products at the stores helped.
Stock decliners:
Vahanna Tech Edge Acquisition$(VHNA)$ shares fell 11%, a day after rallying 21% after shareholders approved a business combination with insurance technology company Roadzen.
