Holiday Demand for Chinese Liquor Likely Modest -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2023-10-03

0244 GMT - Demand for Chinese liquor baijiu over the holiday season is expected to be modest, UOB Kay Hian analysts say in a note. Wholesale prices fell ahead of China's Golden Week holidays, unlike in previous years, reflecting weak consumer sentiment, they add. The brokerage says sales of low- to mid-range products should recover faster than higher-end products. UOB KH remains overweight on the baijiu sector, and says it prefers "companies with strong earnings visibility and solid growth from the companies' expansion plans." It likes, in order: Moutai, Fenjiu and Wuliangye. (hoishan.chan@wsj.com)
