Overstock.com Bristles At Investor Activism In Filing -- Market Talk

Dow Jones2023-11-01

1411 ET - Overstock.com, soon to be Beyond, is none too pleased with the demands of a major activist investor. The company says in its 10Q filing that responding to recent demands from stakeholder JAT Capital could disrupt its business and cast doubt on the direction of the company. DA Davidson analyst Tom Forte says in a research note that the reaction from the company is disappointing. The recommendations from JAT, such as adopting a longer-term business plan and making C-Suite compensation more stock-based, are seen as reasonable by Forte, and could be catalysts for currently weak shares. The stock rises 0.3% to $15.68. (ben.glickman@wsj.com; @benglickman)
