Asahi (OTCPK:ASBRF) acquired Dreher in 2017 in large deal with Anheuser-Bush InBev (BUD) that included four other Eastern European breweries. Dreher is Hungary's top beer company with around 30% of the market. One of the main factors for Asahi (OTCPK:ASBRF) in deciding to increase the company's exposure to Europe is the higher percentage of premium beer sales in the region. The brewer saw its average unit price in the European market rose 15% year-over-year for the first nine months of 2023, compared to a unit price increase of 9.5% in Japan and 3.1% in Australia, according to Nikkei Asia Review. Asahi (OTCPK:ASBRF) is already one of the largest beer sellers in Europe, along with Bitburger Brewery, Carlsberg Group (OTCPK:CABGY), Anheuser Busch InBev (BUD), Constellation Brands (STZ), and Heineken N.V. (OTCQX:HEINY). Looking at overall the beer giant's overall strategy, Asahi (OTCPK:ASBRF) has been expanding outside Japan through big acquisitions due chiefly to the local market shrinking amid the trend of young consumers turning away from alcoholic drinks.
