China's Lunar New Year Data Signals Positive Momentum for Consumer Stocks -- Market Talk

Dow Jones02-20

0945 GMT - China's consumption data over the Lunar New Year holiday came in better than expected, OCBC's research team writes in a note. While traffic was strong, they note widespread consumption downgrading, reflected in lower per capita spending. The data showed notable growth in tourism-related services, increased movie revenue and high demand for dining and entertainment, signaling positive implications for tourism, restaurant and beer companies, OCBC says. The analysts have buy ratings on Trip.com, H World and Kweichow Moutai, citing reasons such as strong pricing power, market-share gains with healthy margins and overseas exposure.
