Activision has used unlawful monopoly power to prevent would-be competitors from entering the market, as well as to coerce the market’s other participants to acquiesce to extortionate financial terms, claimed the plaintiffs. Activision Blizzard — which was acquired by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) last year for $69 billion — created \"Call of Duty\", a first-person-shooter video game franchise that includes 22 game titles to date.  Professional Call of Duty players Rodriguez and Abner claimed that until 2019, multiple professional leagues and tournaments were organized and conducted by a variety of different entities, including Activision, GameStop, and Major League Gaming. Since late 2019, Activision took actions that were intended to eliminate all professional Call of Duty leagues and professional Call of Duty tournaments other than the Activision Call of Duty League, which Activision owns and controls, alleged the lawsuit. The plaintiffs claimed that while the monetary amount owed to them would be determined at trial, it is believed to be more than $120 million. Responding to Seeking Alpha, Activision Blizzard said, \"We will strongly defend against these claims, which have no basis in fact or in law.\"  \"Mr. Rodriguez (aka OpTic H3CZ) and Mr. Abner (aka Scump) demanded that Activision pay them tens of millions of dollars to avoid this meritless litigation, and when their demands were not met, they filed,\" Activision added.
