FTSE 100 Steady, Underperforming Europe; Rolls-Royce Jumps But WPP, Lloyds Fall -- Market Talk

1039 GMT - The FTSE 100 index trades steady at 7663.85, continuing to underperform peers and missing out on a big rally that sends the Stoxx Europe 600 and Japan's Nikkei to record highs following AI giant Nvidia's bumper results. Advertising group WPP slides 2.6% after pretax profit fell last year, hurt by impairments. Lloyds Banking Group falls 0.3% after earnings and setting aside provisions for a U.K. regulatory review of the motor finance industry, following on from Wednesday's dive in HSBC shares dived following earnings. Offsetting that, Rolls-Royce jumps 7.4% after swinging to pretax profit in 2023. Miner Anglo American rises 3.5% after earnings, and insurer Beazley tops gainers, up 8.9% on plans to return cash to shareholders. (jessica.fleetham@wsj.com)
