Motus GI Holdings shares were up 55% to $1.01 after the company said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued it a new patent titled, "Colon Cleaning System with Automatic Self-Purging Feature."

The stock hit its 52-week low of 57 cents on Tuesday, and is down 93% in the past 12 months.

The medical technology company said the new patent covers systems and methods for cleaning a colon or other portion of the gastrointestinal tract, including optional use of sensors to detect conditions of blockage of flow of materials within an evacuation channel used to remove debris from the body. The patent also covers devices and methods for purging such blockages from the body's evacuation channel.

This latest patent application is a continuation of U.S. patent applications filed on April 21, 2019.
