Singapore Shares Fall 1.2% as Earnings Disappoint -- Market Talk

Dow Jones02-23

1005 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index closed 1.2% lower at 3184.91, as almost all constituents lost ground, tipping the index into the red for the week. Disappointing earnings weighed on sentiment. Genting Singapore dropped 9.7% after quarterly earnings missed estimates as unexpected impairments offset tourism recovery, while Venture shed 2.7% after its revenue and profit fell on softer demand and customer inventory destocking. Next week, earnings will remain in focus, with results expected from UOL Group and Seatrium on Monday. (kimberley.kao@wsj.com)
