View our latest analysis for PCCW  PCCW's Dividend Is Well Covered By Earnings  While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable.     PCCW is not generating a profit, but its free cash flows easily cover the dividend, leaving plenty for reinvestment in the business.  This gives us some comfort about the level of the dividend payments.    Earnings per share is forecast to rise exponentially over the next year.  Assuming the dividend continues along the path it has been on, the payout ratio could get to 77% which is certainly still sustainable.    SEHK:8 Historic Dividend February 26th 2024 PCCW Has A Solid Track Record  The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends.      Since 2014, the annual payment back then was HK$0.191, compared to the most recent full-year payment of HK$0.383.      This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 7.2% over that duration.     The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.     The Dividend Has Limited Growth Potential  Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history.   However, initial appearances might be deceiving.      Over the past five years, it looks as though PCCW's EPS has declined at around 46% a year.  Dividend payments are likely to come under some pressure unless EPS can pull out of the nosedive it is in.
