Singapore Shares Rise 0.4% as Investors Await U.S. CPI Data -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-12

0110 GMT - Singapore's benchmark FTSE Straits Times Index rises 0.4% to 3149.67 as investors await the U.S. inflation report due later in the global day. The main theme seems to have been consolidation, Commerzbank Research analysts say in a note. Market participants are assessing whether the upside surprise in January core inflation was a one-off blip or if it'll moderate, the analysts add. Among the best performers on the benchmark index, Jardine Matheson Holdings rises 1.6%, Thai Beverage adds 1.0%, and UOL Group is up 1.2%. Meanwhile, Seatrium falls 1.1% and Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust sheds 0.8%. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
