Dow Jones03-27

1402 ET - Sales of cosmetics and fragrances in Hainan improved sequentially in the month of February, D.A. Davidson analyst Linda Bolton Weiser says in a research note, citing Chinese government data. The Chinese duty-free island saw a 12.3% year-over-year drop in cosmetics sales in February, compared with a year-over-year decline of 44.5% in January. Sales of fragrances declined 11.5% over the same period, improving from a 33.3% drop in January. Overall, the perfumes category slightly outperformed cosmetics in February. The latest Chinese government data highly affects beauty giant Estée Lauder, since about 30% of its sales come from Mainland China and China-related travel retail, Bolton Weiser notes. Estée Lauder shares rise 0.2% to $139.42. (sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)
