Bank of China's 4Q Beat Set to Buoy Shares -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-29

0415 GMT - Bank of China's shares should get a boost after it delivered better 4Q results than other major Chinese lenders, Citi Research analysts say in a research note. BOC's 4Q earnings beat consensus views on stronger-than-expected trading gains and resilient loan growth, they say. The trading gains were driven by a bullish bond market in 4Q and a low base, more than offsetting a contraction in its net interest margin, they say. The bank's NIM was dragged by lower loan yields as result of existing mortgage repricing and higher deposit costs, they add. Citi maintains a buy call on BOC with a HK$4.21 target. Shares last closed at HK$3.23. Trading is closed for a holiday. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
