Apple and Baidu shares fell fractionally in premarket trading on Tuesday. \"We believe a deal makes sense as BIDU is the dominant search player with strong government relations on AI,\" analysts at the firm said. \"Both parties would mutually benefit and have an existing working relationship on Search: Apple has existing partnerships for default search on iOS with Google (outside China) and with Baidu (in China) and so it makes sense that Apple is also exploring AI partnerships with both parties.\" If a deal, which has not been finalized nor confirmed by either company, comes to fruition, it could look like the deal between Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (GOOGL) and Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF), the analysts added.  \"This would involve Apple gaining license versions of AI models on-device to power new AI applications - these could include voice recognition, photo editor and Circle to Search functions with Search traffic from Siri or applications routed through Baidu,\" they wrote in the note. Benefits for both If the deal happens, it's likely it would involve a \"nominal fee\" between Apple and Baidu, the analysts said. For Apple, the benefit would be a boost in iPhone sales. Recent data has shown the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has lost ground in the world's most populous country, which has resulted in some concern on Wall Street. Baidu, on the other hand, would receive \"lots of customer feedback and traffic from the AI functions to its ERNIE Search,\" the analysts said. In the long run, there is a \"large potential\" to monetize the search via AI, with both Baidu and Apple likely to see some sort of financial benefit, the analysts said. Additionally, Baidu could also get a boost to its cloud business, especially if Apple were to promote some of its cloud AI tools, the analysts said. Baidu is set to host its annual developer conference on April 16 while Apple is set to host its own developer conference in June.
