Baltimore Bridge Collapse May Have Limited Impact on European Automakers -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-06

1350 ET - Disruptions to the Port of Baltimore as a result of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge will likely have only limited impact for European automakers, Fitch Ratings says. Although the Port of Baltimore is the largest automotive port in the U.S., automakers have been finding alternative routes, which should help them avoid raising vehicles prices, Fitch says. Mercedes is most affected among German car makers by the collapse, since Baltimore serves as a distribution center for the company's U.S. operations, Fitch says. VW and BMW are continuing to use their terminal at the Baltimore port, since it is located to the east of the collapsed bridge and remains operational, according to Fitch. (stephen.nakrosis@wsj.com)
