Singapore Shares Rise 0.7% Ahead of U.S. Data -- Market Talk

0928 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Index rose 0.7% to close at 3237.52. Investors are watching for the U.S. consumer price index data due tomorrow, UOB's Global Economics & Markets Research team said in a report. Investors will look to the data for implications on Fed policy. Among best performers on the benchmark index, Jardine Cycle & Carriage rose 4.9%, Mapletree Industrial Trust was up 1.7% and Hongkong Land Holdings added 1.6%. Meanwhile, decliners included Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which fell 1.1%, and Singtel, down 0.4%. (amanda.lee@wsj.com)
