FTSE 100 Falls as Oil Stocks Drop; European Equities Rise -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-15

1010 GMT - The FTSE 100 falls 0.5% to 7955.65, significantly underperforming European equities due to losses for heavyweight oil and mining stocks as crude oil prices fall. Appetite for risky assets holds up despite Iran's drone and missile strike on Israel due to hopes that the situation won't escalate, causing oil prices to fall. Investors remain cautious, however. Oil stocks BP and Shell fall 2.8% and 1.8%, respectively, while precious-metal firm Fresnillo loses 3.5% as gold prices fall. Among miners, Glencore falls 1.7% and Anglo American loses 1.1%. BAE Systems rises 1.4% due to demand for defense stocks. The pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 rises 0.4% and Germany's DAX gains 0.8%, as industrial, auto and tech stocks are broadly higher.
