The users have doubled since the Chinese internet search giant said in December that Ernie surpassed over 100M users. Baidu CEO Robin Li said that Ernie Bot's application programming interface, or API, is being used 200M times every day. This meant that the AI tool was requested by its user to carry out tasks that many times a day, the report. Ernie's enterprise clients reached 85,000, Li said at a conference in Shenzhen, according to the report. Last month, the company said it released five new versions of Ernie and an enhanced development toolkit for enterprises. Baidu had noted during its fourth-quarter earnings in February that its AI service had begun to add to sales. In November 2023, Baidu launched a paid version of Ernie Bot, a month before that the company had unveiled Ernie 4.0, a potential rival to Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI's GPT-4 model. Baidu (BIDU) was among the first list of Chinese companies — which included startups Zhipu and Baichuan — to win approval from China's internet watchdog at the end of August for AI services to be released for public. Alibaba-backed start-up Moonshot AI's chat tool Kimi seems to be catching up to Ernie. Ernie was visited 14.9M times across its app and website last month, while Kimi saw 12.6M visits in the same period, according to data from AIcpb.com, the report noted. ChatGPT remains the world's most visited generative AI service, with total traffic growing 9% to touch 1.86B views last month, the report added.
