Adobe Unveils New Mobile Version of Express for Creating AI-Driven Content -- Barrons.com

Adobe this morning launched a new mobile version of its Adobe Express software, which will provide a flexible multipurpose tool for individuals and small businesses to create AI-driven content for social media sites and other purposes.

Adobe added artificial intelligence features to the web and desktop versions of Express about six months ago; this new update provides the same experience on Android and iOS phones. The new apps are launching this morning in many languages and multiple global markets. Express can be used at no charge, with higher levels of service available for paying customers.

Express combines photo, design, video and generative AI capabilities into a single tool for creating and editing content. The tool includes previously announced features from the company's Firefly AI suite, like text-to-image, text effects, and "generative fill" for photo editing. There are also tools for animating and captions videos, all with text prompts.

David Wadhwani, senior vice president of Adobe's Digital Media business, said adding AI features to the desktop version of Express has expanded use of the software, with the number of content exports doubling over the past year. Wadhwani's view is that "solopreneurs" and others who create content generally viewed on mobile devices find it helpful to do the content creation in the same medium.

Adobe will offer paid versions of the plan that will include expanded features, including the availability to create more AI content, to redesign content created for one platform (say) Instagram) to the parameters of another (like TikTok) and to schedule social media posts. Paid accounts will also have higher usage limits on creating AI-driven content.

Wadhwani also repeated the company's previous disclosure that it is working on AI models for video, audio and 3-D. Earlier this week, Adobe unveiled new video tools for its Premiere Pro software, including the ability to add or remove objects in a scene. The company also said that Premiere Pro will be able to edit AI generated content from OpenAI's Sora, as well as Runway AI and Pika Labs.

Wadhwani said the company expects to offer a "best of breed" text to video tool with similar functionality to OpenAI's Sora later this year.
