Lack of Canadian Tax Reform Is Good for Big Cannabis Businesses -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-18

1612 ET - The lack of excise tax reform in the Canadian budget should accelerate a shakeout of smaller cannabis businesses and thereby benefit larger, tax-paying operators, Alliance Global Partners analyst Aaron Grey says in a research note. Some tax relief would have provided a needed lifeline for smaller companies who owed taxes, and without it, the likelihood goes up that those businesses won't be able to keep operating, he says. Larger businesses should be able to increase their share, the analyst says, adding that the biggest beneficiaries should include Village Farms, Organigram and Tilray. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
