The board of Camden Property Trust has given the position of president to its chief financial officer.

The Houston-based real estate company said Wednesday that CFO Alex Jessett will now assume the role previously held by D. Keith Oden, who will continue to serve as executive vice chairman of the board.

As such, Jessett will now oversee the company's operational functions while continuing to report to Oden.

Chief Executive Richard Campo said the move is "part of good corporate governance and long-term succession planning."
