Samsung was expected to ramp production of the next-generation offerings by the end of either the third or fourth quarter, the news outlet added, citing sources. Samsung competes with SK Hynix and Micron Technology (MU) in the memory space, with high-bandwidth memory being used in processors designed for artificial intelligence. HBM chips are seen as crucial to AI accelerators due to energy efficiency and better processing speeds than other memory chips. Last month, it was reported that Nvidia (NVDA) was testing high-bandwidth memory offerings from Samsung. Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said his company was in the process of qualifying Samsung's chips, with plans to use them in the future. Separately last month, SK Hynix said it started mass production of next-generation high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, chips used in AI chipsets. The company did not disclose its customers, but media reports indicate that initial shipments of the chips will go to Nvidia.
