The financial giant was rising 1.70% Tuesday afternoon to trade at $93.66. The stock has gained 6.67% during the course of the last six trading days, particularly increasing by 2.47% on April 16 after the company's Q1 earnings results were out. MS, currently close to its 52-week high of $95.57, is trading 3% above its 20-day simple moving average and 10% higher than its 200-day SMA. Short interest stood at 1.21% of the total float as of March 31. Comparatively, the broader Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ETF was trading 0.65% higher at $41.14 Tuesday afternoon. A credit benefit, rebounding investment banking activity, and rising wealth management revenue helped push Morgan Stanley's Q1 earnings past the average analyst estimate. MS was in the list of the 15 out of 20 S&P 500 financial stocks that delivered EPS wins. The company retained its quarterly dividend of $0.85 per share. The bank considered too big to fail is reportedly planning to axe about 50 investment-banking staffers in the Asia-Pacific region, with business outlooks hindered by a dealmaking drought and sluggish market conditions in China. The stock appears overvalued from its PE history, and PEG ratio, but fairly valued from its price to tangible book value history. Higher expected IPO and M&A activities are the catalysts that all together justify a buy rating on the stock, SA author Daniel Urbina said in a recent report. Seeking Alpha analysts and the sell-side analysts rate the stock as Buy. Meanwhile, SA's Quant Rating system grades MS as Hold, with a score of 3.42 on a scale of 5.
