Evercore analysts led by James West advocate First Solar's (FSLR) heavy investment in new manufacturing plants and R&D, including the 1 GW expansion of module production capacity in Ohio, with first commercial shipments expected in this year's H1; $1.1B for a 3.5 GW solar panel factory in Alabama, with commercial shipment likely starting in H2; the company's plant in Louisiana - its fifth overall - which is expected to begin operations in late 2025 with 3.5 GW of nameplate capacity; and a new R&D innovation center in Ohio scheduled to begin operations in H1 this year. At the same time, West and his team downgrades SunPower (SPWR) to In-Line from Outperform with a $6 PT, citing persistent high interest rates, continued weakness in California after NEM 3.0, and the possibility of further capital needs. SunPower (SPWR) -8.1% on Tuesday after disclosing misstatements in its audited financial statements that will cause it to restate nearly two years of results.
