Westpac Pushes Out Timing of RBA Rate Cut to November -- Market Talk

Dow Jones04-24

0256 GMT - Westpac thinks the Reserve Bank of Australia is now more likely to cut interest rates in November as it digests 1Q CPI data that were stronger than expected. Westpac says it has pushed out the date of RBA easing policy from September, given the slow grind lower in headline inflation. CPI rose by 1.0% on a quarterly basis, stronger than Westpac's forecast of a 0.8% increase. "It will probably continue to be cautious about services inflation and domestic pressures broadly for a few months yet," Westpac says of the RBA. "We therefore do not expect any change to the messaging about not ruling anything in or out for another few months." (david.winning@wsj.com; @dwinningWSJ)
